Having a photoshoot with kids can be challenging at the best of times, so why not make it fun and exciting for them! Take a look at our top 10 ideas for a fun and creative kids photoshoot. We can guarantee that it will be more fun for both parties!
bring a four legged friend
We know that pets and children have this special bond like no other, so why not include them in your photoshoot. Whilst it might be more challenging to get them both still, children will feel more comfortable during the shoot and therefore act more naturally.
Children love to dress up and this will add an element of fun and excitement to the photoshoot! Let the kids go wild by expressing their creativity and emotion through a dressing up box. Their laughter and excitement will capture a photo that will leave smiles on everyones faces.
Get creative, quite literally!
Whilst it may get messy, the photos will certainly be worth it! Get the kids to paint, bake a cake or do any other creative activity you can think of. Not only will the kids feel more comfortable shooting with something that they are familiar with, but it will also bring out expressions that will make for a great photo!
Put on a talent show
This is a great idea for kids who have a lot of energy! Ask the kids to show you their most impressive tricks and talents for a high energy and expressive shoot. Usually you will find the kids to be moving around, so make sure that you are ready at all times!
Create a fantasy world
Kids love to set their imagination wild! So why not create a bespoke background for the kids to interact with during the photoshoot. This can be a fairytale castle or a wild jungle. We suggest that you brainstorm some ideas with the kids prior to the shoot to get them excited!
Take the photoshoot outside to either a park or woods. Kids can climb up trees (with supervision, of course), feed ducks and play at the playground. Once again, anything that will distract the kids will produce a more natural shoot!
Kids love to have fun and create loads of mess so having a pillow fight will definitely keep them occupied! You will be able to capture great action shots of feathers everywhere and kids laughing with each other. Remember to keep it light hearted, you don’t want any accidents on the set!
Have a dance party
This idea is especially great if you’re working with high energy kids! Put on some music and let the kids show you their favourite dance moves. I can guarantee that they’ll have tons of fun and it will create some great images too.
Pull a funny face!
This idea may seem silly but it’s simple yet effective. Engaging with the kids will make them feel comfortable and therefore they will be more willing to follow your instructions. You may have to multi-task here by pulling funny faces back and capturing photos at the same time!
bring a cuddly friend
Kids will always have that one cuddly toy that is attached to their hip, so why not include it in your photos. Using props is a great way to interact and engage with the kids. A Teddy Bear’s Picnic is a great idea to take inspiration from, as the kids will be super excited from the set up.
IT MAY NOT GO TO PLAN….
Sometimes, kids may not corporate with you! So being patient is key, and finding out what makes the child happy and exciting is your golden ticket to a successful photoshoot!
