What is your current position?

I am an UI/UX Designer for Klaud9.

Where are you from?

I am from the Philippines.

How long have you lived in Singapore?

I have been working in Singapore for almost 7 years now.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

My morning cereals with chocolate bits and my early morning walk/cycle to work where I attempt to solve the day’s challenging problems.

Which global brands do you think are doing a good job of tailoring their content to the local market?

Coca Cola. Its strategic approach to localising their brand resonates across the respective markets. They design their content in a way with which people can always relate, thus encouraging users to share their content.

What is your favourite style of visual content?

It depends on the brand and and what tone they want to convey. I prefer not to use visual content which is ‘cheesy’ and ‘posey’, but rather images which come across as more natural. I feel that using visuals with natural looking people are more relatable to consumers and can help elevate a brand.

How do you currently source your stock photos?

I source photos through the artists subscribed to Klaud9. Having access to a platform where high quality images are readily available is extremely helpful in my field of work.

What would you like to see improved in the stock photo industry?

In Asia, there has been a lot of duplicate use of images across different brands and campaigns. This is due to the lack of availability and diversity of Asian stock photos. Where there are photos available, they are mostly insincere and unnatural. Klaud9 is doing a good job of expanding this market and helping solve the problem.

Provide a specific example of content you created that you felt really connected with your audience. Why do you think it worked so well?

I have found that visual content related to travel garners a lot of audience interaction. The travel trend in South East Asia is huge and has been promoted mostly by social media and marketing. I think the source of this tourism is that people globally are becoming increasingly exposed to the beauty of the world through picturesque photos and campaigns, as well as through word of mouth from fellow travellers.

What the best piece of advice you can give on visual content marketing?

The most important thing to do before starting a project is to RESEARCH. No matter the subject matter it is crucial to have fully researched your topic and gathered any valuable information before starting any project. It is important to understand your brand and the message they want to deliver to their audience. Remember that you are not just there to create a design, you are also the spokesperson delivering the message for your client.
